Winter Driving Safety Tips
If you have ever driven in a true Colorado snowstorm, you know just how scary and unpredictable our roads can be. You can go from a sunny, relaxing drive to a white knuckle white-out in minutes, like, for real! And that is why for January, I want to bring you some winter safety driving tips. These tips come from the folks who keep our roadways clear and maintained, the Colorado Department of Transportation*.
-The Traction Law
Make sure your tires are in good condition. While it is recommended that you have all-weather or snow tires during the winter weather season, we know that isn't an option for everyone. At times in Colorado, Traction Law is called. Did you know that you could be fined up to $650 (probably the cost of new tires for some) if your vehicle is improperly equipped? - Fill 'Er Up
I'm not just talking about gas here; it's important to make sure you have enough window wash in your vehicle's reservoir. Splashback is real and real scary, so fill up often and keep some extra washer fluid in your vehicle, check your wiper blades while you are at it!
- Vehicle Essentials - Some key items to keep in your vehicle
Snow scraper or brush
Food and water - granola bars or non-perishables and at least a gallon of water is recommended (don't bring cans unless you have an opener)
First aid kit and extra daily medication medication
Flares or reflectors - use these to signal other drivers, or rescue services, for help or warnings
Tire chains and tow straps
Blanket and warm clothes
I realize that some of these things may seem excessive, but they are essential. In March of 2019, multiple vehicles were buried in the snow following avalanches. Always expect the unexpected.

Home Inventory
I'm sure at least one of you have a New Year's Resolution to tidy up, de-clutter, and organize your home. Maybe you're going the extra mile and adding the garage too. While you are at it, take video or photos of your personal property. Remember that is anything that is not attached to your structure. Pay close attention to your high ticket items! If your home and property were a total loss, would you remember what should be replaced? I know I'd struggle! The stress and heartache that follows total loss claims can leave you a bit, shall I say, wrecked... If you would like to send us a copy of your inventory record we will gladly keep it in your insurance file.
